Should the big data revolution be feared? Professor says it’s all in the numbersRecent improvements in statistical computational methods have resulted in machine-learning systems that can provide useful insights to diverse industries. Some question whether big data will lead to big trouble, but Jennifer Neville, an associate professor with a joint appointment in the departments of Computer Science and Statistics, says big data's potential for good vastly exceeds its potential pitfalls. Neville will discuss this topic on Thursday (Sept. 18) during a conference at Purdue called "Dawn or Doom: The New Technology Explosion."
