Daniels' report to trustees focuses on institutional excellence

President Mitch Daniels began a new series of governance reports to the Purdue Board of Trustees today (Feb. 21) with a look at institutional excellence. The report was the first of a series that will focus each meeting on one of the five areas of accountability chosen by the board and around which the president's contract is based.

Lyles family gives $15 million to School of Civil Engineering

The Purdue Board of Trustees today (Feb. 21) approved naming the School of Civil Engineering for the Lyles family in recognition of a $15 million gift from the Lyles Foundation. The school will be known as the Lyles School of Civil Engineering. The gift will be used to broaden the school's capacities for learning and discovery and for generating solutions to critical global problems.

Trustees approve interdisciplinary studies school, department name change

The Purdue Board of Trustees today (Feb. 21) approved a School of Interdisciplinary Studies in the College of Liberal Arts and renaming the Department of Physics to the Department of Physics and Astronomy. Trustees also approved adding the University Senate chairperson as a non-voting, ex officio member of the trustees' Academic Affairs Committee.

Trustees ratify 5 named professors, approve posthumous degree and resolution of appreciation

The Purdue Board of Trustees today (Feb. 21) ratified five named professors and approved a posthumous degree. Trustees also approved a resolution of appreciation for those who have donated $1 million or more to Purdue as well as a supplemental retirement plan for the director of intercollegiate athletics.

Presentations made on two Purdue Moves initiatives

The Purdue Board of Trustees today (Feb. 21) heard presentations on two Purdue Moves initiatives -- investing in drug discovery and advancing plant science research. Presenting about Purdue's focus on investing in drug discovery were Philip Low, the Ralph C. Corley Distinguished Professor of Chemistry, and Timothy Ratliff, professor of comparative pathobiology and the Robert Wallace Miller Director of the Center for Cancer Research. Presenting about advancing plant science research were Jay Akridge, the Glenn W. Sample Dean of Purdue Agriculture, and Karen Plaut, senior associate dean for research and faculty affairs in the College of Agriculture.
