TODAY'S THEME: ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORTATION

Alternative Transportation Expo to highlight sustainable travel options

About 15 organizations and businesses from throughout Purdue's West Lafayette campus and the local area will showcase sustainable vehicles of all stripes today (Oct. 23) at the Alternative Transportation Expo. Part of Green Week, the expo will take place at 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Centennial and Memorial malls. On display will be biofuel airplanes, hybrid trucks and buses, Zipcars, bicycles and more.

* Boiler Green Initiative will offer tours of and answer questions about the Schleman Hall green roof from noon to 4 p.m. today. The green roof helps to conserve heating and cooling energy use and better manage storm water drainage.

Event by Nursing, others to help grad students' children

Children of Purdue graduate students can receive medical exams and shots, and their parents can learn health and nutrition facts, on Friday (Oct. 25) at the fourth Child Wellness Day led by the School of Nursing and Purdue Graduate Student Government.

Purdue Artisan and Fabrication Lab open house set for today

An open house for the Purdue Artisan and Fabrication Lab will be at 10:30-noon today (Oct. 23) in Neil Armstrong Hall, Room B089. A tour of the six areas where faculty, staff and students can build prototypes of their innovations or complete projects for required coursework will be offered. Speakers at the event include Dan Hasler, president of Purdue Research Foundation, and Leah Jamieson, the John A. Edwardson Dean of Engineering.

Purdue's Low receives BioCrossroads' 2013 Watanabe Life Sciences Champion of the Year Award

Philip Low, the Ralph C. Corley Distinguished Professor of Chemistry and director of the Center for Drug Discovery, on Tuesday (Oct. 22) was honored with BioCrossroads' August M. Watanabe Life Sciences Champion of the Year Award. BioCrossroads presents the award annually to an individual or organization that has made or enabled unique achievements in the development and promotion of Indiana's life sciences research, educational or economic advancement.
