In the Spotlight
The good news for students is that hiring in the United States is gaining a little steam. The better news for Purdue students: Their university is a hot spot for corporate recruiters, particularly in the STEM areas.
So says Timothy Luzader, director of Purdue's Center for Career Opportunities. He sees the numbers and hears from employers. "Every year, when we compare ourselves to peer institutions, we rank among the top as far as having the highest number of employers visit campus," Luzader says. "We've consistently been seeing this trend."
Faculty and staff news
A recap of the University Senate's first meeting of the spring semester, held Monday (Jan. 28).
Alex Francis, associate professor of speech, language, and hearing sciences, is turning to i>clicker, a student-response system, to provide feedback he needs to gauge his students' comprehension and help guide his instruction. ITaP and the Center for Instructional Excellence (CIE) are hosting a Feb. 6 workshop on clickers for other faculty interested in taking advantage of the technology.
In light of recent email phishing attempts targeting Purdue, ITaP reminds the Purdue community that providing personal information in response to an unsolicited email, especially things like passwords and account numbers, is always a bad idea.
