Food service providers to convene at Purdue, discuss latest trends

Nearly 500 food service professionals and industry suppliers are headed to Purdue for a conference focusing on best practices and developing trends in providing food to a new generation of college students.

The National Association of College and University Food Services' 50th annual Midwest Regional Conference, at Purdue for the first time, runs from Monday (March 10) to Thursday (March 13). Participants will attend topical seminars, eat at and tour Purdue's revamped and award-winning dining facilities, watch university chefs compete in an "Iron Chef"-style cook-off, and learn from a noted food trend "futurist" and an Army Ranger team builder. New technique takes a big step in examination of small structures

A team led by a Purdue researcher has achieved images of a virus in detail two times greater than had previously been achieved.

Wen Jiang, assistant professor of biological sciences, led a research team that used the emerging technique of single-particle electron cryomicroscopy to capture a three-dimensional image of a virus at a resolution of 4.5 angstroms. Approximately 1 million angstroms would equal the diameter of a human hair. More

Panel discussion focuses on voters' rights, voter security

Community members are invited to attend a March 17 informational forum on voters' rights and voter security. Freedom to Vote: Protecting the Ballot is set for 7-9 p.m. at the Unitarian-Universalist Church on Meridian Street, West Lafayette. The event is sponsored by the Purdue Liberal Arts Community Engagement program, which is known as PLACE, the Unitarian-Universalist Church and the American Civil Liberties Union in Indiana. More

Talk to focus on long-term care

Dr. Robert Kane of the University of Minnesota School of Public Health will present "The Chronic Care Crisis" at 2:30 p.m. March 19 in Room 202, Stewart Center. Ivy Tech endowment to help bring arts into college classrooms

Ivy Tech Community College Lafayette and Purdue Convocations will formally launch an education partnership on stage prior to the Beakman Live! performance on March 7 in Loeb Playhouse. The Ivy Tech Foundation also will announce the establishment of the Opportunity Fund for Arts in Education, an endowment that will help incorporate Purdue Convocations events into Ivy Tech classrooms.
