U.S. News: Purdue engineering among top grad programs

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Six of Purdue University's Schools of Engineering ranked among the top 10 in the nation in a survey by U.S.News & World Report magazine released today (Friday, 4/5).

Those rankings for Purdue graduate-level programs were:

• School of Industrial Engineering, third.

• School of Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering, sixth.

• School of Civil Engineering, seventh.

• School of Mechanical Engineering, seventh.

• School of Nuclear Engineering, seventh.

• School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, ninth.

Overall, Purdue engineering ranked 12th in the nation, based on data provided by 145 schools. The magazine used those data to calculate the rankings. The individual rankings listed above for specialty areas are based solely on nominations from educators at peer institutions, not the same data used to calculate the overall ranking. In a separate ranking category, corporate recruiters rated Purdue engineering sixth in the nation.

"We are gratified that Purdue engineering is recognized as among the best in the nation and that corporate recruiters ranked our programs sixth, which is a direct reflection on the quality of our students and faculty," said Linda P. Katehi, dean of Purdue's Schools of Engineering. "Our individual programs continue to rank high. And we are committed to intensifying our efforts to further improve our overall rankings and make Purdue the leading engineering institution."

With an undergraduate enrollment of nearly 6,100, graduate enrollment of about 1,300 and a faculty of about 270, Purdue's engineering program is one of the largest in the United States. It encompasses 13 schools, departments and divisions.

U.S.News & World Report will publish its complete rankings of graduate schools in its April 15 issue, "America's Best Graduate Schools," which will be available on newsstands Monday (4/8). The complete rankings and methodology also will be available Monday at U.S. News Online.
