April 5, 2002 U.S. News ranks Krannert School MBA among nation's bestWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – U.S.News & World Report ranks Purdue University's Krannert School of Management's MBA program fourth nationally in production/operations management and eighth in quantitative analysis. Krannert ranked 28th overall among the nation's 325 accredited MBA programs in business and management. The rankings, published in the magazine's 2003 "America's Best Graduate Schools," were released today (Friday, 4/5). "Our ranking is consistent with our strategic plan to be a school where management and technology meet," said Richard A. Cosier, Krannert School dean and Leeds Professor of Management. "We are especially happy to be ranked fourth nationally in production/operations management, as Indiana has the largest percentage of its population employed in manufacturing compared to any other state in the nation. "Our top 10 ranking in quantitative analysis is a testimonial to our emphasis on using analytical tools in the management of technology." U.S. News bases its overall national rankings on schools' reputations, students' grades and test scores, and graduate placement. In the specialty rankings, based upon nominations by business school deans and heads of MBA programs, the Krannert School ranked 12th in management information systems, 20th in general management, 20th in marketing and 28th in accounting. "The top 30 U.S. News rankings reinforce that Krannert School graduates have built the reputation of the school on their exceptional analytical and technical skills and their outstanding work ethic," said Chuck Johnson, director of Krannert School's professional master's degree programs. Stanford received the No. 1 ranking among the nation's graduate business schools. Indiana University's Kelley School ranked 21st overall; Notre Dame tied for 34th. Indiana and California are the only two states to have two public, top 30 business schools. The Krannert School offers master's degrees in management and human resource management; four executive MBAs through a combination of distance-learning and part-time residence on campus; bachelor's degrees in accounting, economics, management and industrial management; and the doctorate. The Krannert School has 2,400 undergraduate management majors, 422 master's degree students and 112 doctoral students. U.S.News & World Report will publish its complete rankings of graduate schools in its April 15 issue, "America's Best Graduate Schools," which will be available on newsstands Monday (4/8).
