Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day

Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day is a FREE one-day on-campus event designed to increase interest in engineering among early high school students. The day features hands-on activities and interaction with current engineering students for participants and information sessions for parents. The Women in Engineering Program's Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day is part of National Engineer's Week programming. High School freshmen and sophomores are welcome to participate.

Suggested Activities for Visiting Parents and Siblings of IGED Participants

Please take advantage of what is offered on campus and in our local community as your daughter participates in IGED. In addition to the listing of suggested activities, Lafayette/West Lafayette Visitors Center is open from 10am-4pm on Saturdays and is located at 301 Frontage Road in Lafayette, Indiana. Parents/guardians, we encourage you to attend our free Parent Information Session in coordination with IGED. While your daughter embarks on her IGED experience escorted throughout the day by a female student in engineering, staff from Women in Engineering, current engineering students and industry representatives will host this parent session on resources and opportunities for encouraging your daughter’s interest in engineering.

Hands-On Engineering Activities for K-8th Grade is concurrent with the IGED program

K-8 students may participate in fun, hands-on engineering activities during the Imagination, Innovation, Discovery, & Design (I2D2) Open House from 10am-1pm inside the atrium of the Armstrong Hall of Engineering Building. This event provides an opportunity for ALL students in grades K-8th to explore basic engineering concepts with guidance from current engineering students. There is no registration required. Feel free to come at any time; however, we ask that parents remain with their children. Additional Self-Guided Activities on Campus/In Local Community
  • If you have an iPhone or other iOS device, you may download the free Purdue Campus Tour application, which features an interactive map. It provides in-depth information about Purdue’s buildings and landmarks as the user walks near them. The app also offers a section of information about student life, history, and tradition. To download, search for “Purdue Campus Tour” in the App Store. It is created by Purdue University and should be the first result.
  • Self-guided walking tour of campus
  • The Office of Admissions is open on Saturdays for information from 10:30 am – noon (Schleman Hall, Room 109)
  • Classrooms in most buildings on campus are open on Saturdays until 12:30 pm.
  • Other campus sites to visit include Residence Halls (see above), food courts, and the Purdue Memorial Union
  • Other fun activities to consider for your day:
    • Lunch in a university residences food court or at the Purdue Memorial Union. 
    • Bowling at the Purdue Memorial Union (Union Rack and Roll)

    • Shopping offered at campus bookstores, the Levee area near campus, Wabash Landing area near campus, and the Tippecanoe Mall
