April 2019

Online publication Best Value Schools ranked the Purdue Memorial Union as the ninth best student union in the country.
Students in Purdue Bands & Orchestras are more than twice as likely to be top performing students.  
Students living in Learning Communities for Fall 2018 had an average GPA of 3.16 compared to 3.04 for students not in Learning Communities.  
Purdue Dining & Catering* was featured in Food Service Director Magazine for their academic partnerships, credit-earning internships, and “academicizing” of the college dining experience.
*Purdue Dining & Catering is now Purdue Dining & Culinary.


February 2019

For the 2017-18 academic year, Purdue Greek and Cooperative Organizations raised over $1.1 million for charitable causes.
The average GPAs for students in Greek and Cooperative Organizations are consistently higher than those for the general Purdue population.   
Convocations Executive Director Todd Wetzel was recently recognized with the 2018 Award for Excellence in Presenting the Performing Arts by NAPAMA.  
Purdue Recreation & Wellness was featured as the cover story for the Nov/Dec 2017 issue of Campus Recreation magazine.  

January 2019

For the 2018-19 academic year, Purdue had the lowest residence hall room rate in the Big 10.
Founded in 1912, Purdue Convocations is among the oldest collegiate performing arts presenters in the United States. 
Regular CoRec users complete 96.7% of their course credits as opposed to non-users who only complete 91.9%.   
Purdue Dining & Catering was ranked #34 in the nation by and #46 by The Daily Meal.  

December 2018

The Purdue Marching Band was ranked as the #4 college marching band in the country in 2018 by the website ThoughtCo and among the Top 10 by College Raptor.
Last year, Purdue PMO students performed 105 times in 34 cities and 7 states.
Students who remained on campus between Spring 2017 and Fall 2017 semesters saw an increase in GPA while those who moved off campus during this time saw a decrease.
The percentage of student deciding to return to University Residences has increased from 39.0% in 2007 to 49.1% in 2018.

November 2018

Purdue has its own Quidditch team, a student organization that competes in the Intercollegiate Quidditch Association playing a game made popular in Harry Potter books.
University Residences houses a record number of students - just under 14,000 - for the fall 2018 semester, providing each access to a wide variety of residential academic initiatives.
Research shows that regular CoRec users are much less likely to be placed on academic probation, illustrating the connection between health and academic performance.
Student Life recently held a “History of Horror” walking tour that highlighted events from Purdue’s rich historical past as a benefit for the United Way.

October 2018

The Jump Start program helped 124 student employees in Purdue Dining & Catering gain training and an introduction to campus life prior to Boiler Gold Rush.  
The number of students participating in personal training with Recreational Sports & Wellness staff has increased by 150% in the past year. 
In 2018-19, University Residences will host eight Executives-in-Residence, giving students the opportunity to learn from CEOs, CFOs and business leaders in a small group environment. 
During the 2017-18 academic year, nearly 25% of Purdue students with meal plans took advantage of alternative dinner options during the week.  

September 2018

During Boiler Gold Rush 2018, Purdue’s incoming class set a Guinness Book of World Records for the most train whistles being blown simultaneously. 
Students who regularly use the Co-Rec have GPAs that are 5.9% higher than students who never use the facility.
For the 2018-19 academic year, University Residences will have two Faculty-in-Residence, increasing the ability of students in Windsor Halls and Third Street Suites to experience faculty mentorship.
Purdue University has the lowest room and board rate of all Big 10 institutions for the 2018-19 academic year – the result of six consecutive years without a rate increase for students.

August 2018

Elliott Hall of Music was ranked as the #5 collegiate theater by Best College Reviews.
For the ninth consecutive semester, the GPAs of Greek and Cooperative Life students exceeded the campus average, 3.12 to 3.03 for the Spring 2018 semester.
For the 2017-18 academic year, Purdue offered 1,066 student organizations.
The Indiana Music Education Association recently recognized Purdue Bands Director Jay Gephart as 2018 Outstanding Collegiate Music Educator.

July 2018

Purdue Dining & Catering was recently recognized by Food Management for their innovative methods for serving students.
Collegiate Consensus ranked the France A. Córdova Recreational Sports Center as the 12th best campus recreation center in the nation.
Purdue’s Learning Community program will expand to 70 unique LC’s this Fall, serving over 3,300 students, the second consecutive year with at least a 6% increase in participation.
The Purdue Society of Professional Engineers student organization recently won first place at the annual Rube Goldberg Machine Contest at Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry with a machine that took 3,300 hours to create.

June 2018

Dr. T.J. Boisseau, Associate Professor of Women’s, Gender, & Sexuality Studies, served as the inaugural Amelia Earhart Faculty-in-Residence, living and teaching a class in Windsor Halls in 2017-18.
The Leadership & Professional Development Initiative and Center for Career Opportunities recently partnered with Portfolium to provide a free e-portfolio and professional networking service to students.
The Purdue All-American Marching Band performed prior to the start of the Indianapolis 500 for the 99th year in a row, a tradition dating back to 1919.
Two members of Purdue’s Crew Club were selected to represent the United States at the 2018 FISU World University Games in Shanghai this summer.

May 2018

During the 2017-18 season, Purdue Convocations hosted over 40 events including music, dance, Broadway, and other cultural performances.
Pappy’s Sweet Shop’s classic ice cream sundae won Food Management’s 2018 Menu Madness competition, an NCAA-themed competition for best menu item voted on by the public. 
Many Student Life areas diligently raised funds for Purdue’s annual Day of Giving. Purdue Bands and Orchestras collected more total gifts than any other university area with 2,321 donations, yielding over $1.8 million.
Purdue’s residence halls diverted nearly 150,000 pounds of materials from landfills in the annual Recyclemania competition, powering the way for Purdue to finish 1 st in Indiana and 23 rdnationally. 

April 2018

Purdue’s All-American Marching Band was ranked as the 10th best college football marching band in the nation for the 2017 season according to USA Today.
The 2017 National Association of College and University Food Services Benchmarking study showed that Purdue Dining & Catering met student expectations more frequently than other institutions.
Hillenbrand Hall’s Data Mine Learning Community was recently announced as part of the University’s Data Science Initiative. The Data Mine will launch in Fall 2018 and will ultimately grow to serve up to 800 students.
A 2016 report by College Rank listed the Purdue Memorial Union as the 4th Best Student Union in the nation.

March 2018

Over the past ten years, on-campus students have out-performed off-campus students in GPA for every classification.
Over 90% of students residing in University Housing have had intentional conversations with their Resident Assistants this semester.
The inaugural UR Men’s Leadership Series was recently completed with four speakers over the course of the fall semester.
Under-represented minority students in residential learning communities have higher retention and graduation rates than their campus peers.

February 2018

Undergraduate students in Purdue Musical Organizations are nearly twice as likely to be in the top quartile of academic performers than the bottom quartile. Those in University Bands are nearly three times as likely.
92% of students who utilized RecWell programs agreed that their participation positively contributes to their quality of life.
For the 2016-17 academic year, Purdue Greek and Cooperative Organizations raised over $678,000 for charitable causes.
The average GPAs for students in Greek and Cooperative Organizations are consistently higher than those for the general Purdue population.

January 2018

For the 2017-18 academic year, Purdue had the lowest residence hall room rates among Big 10 Universities.
In 1920, Purdue became one of the first institutions to offer intramural activities to women.
Research from Spring 2016 illustrated that there is a positive correlation between number of times students visit the CoRec and their GPA.
