Associate Vice Provost & Dean of Students

Dr. Katie Sermersheim brings vast knowledge and experience to Purdue University as the dean of students. She has been the Dean of Students at Purdue University since August 2015. The Office of the Dean of Students consists of ten specialized areas that include: Center for Advocacy, Response and Education; Counseling and Psychological Services; Fraternity, Sorority and Cooperative Life; Off-Campus Housing; Parent & Family Connections; Student Health Services; Division of Recreation and Wellness; Student Legal Services and Student Rights and Responsibilities. Prior to that, she served Southern Illinois University Carbondale in several capacities over an 18 year tenure including Dean of Students, Associate Dean of Students, Director of Student Development and Assistant Director of Student Development.   Additionally, she has held professional positions in student affairs at Western Illinois University and St. Joseph’s College.

She received her Ph.D. in Education with an emphasis in Educational Administration from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. She has a M.S. in College Student Personnel from Western Illinois University, and a B.S. in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Southern Indiana. 

She has been an active member of professional organizations within student affairs including ACPA - College Student Educators International and NASPA - National Association of Student Personnel Administrators. She has presented at numerous national conferences including ACPA, NASPA, Association of Fraternal Leadership & Values, Undergraduate Interfraternity Institute, Association of Fraternity Advisors, National Association of Campus Activities, and multiple national fraternity and sorority functions. Katie is currently serving on the Board of Directors with the YWCA Greater Lafayette Association.
