Welcome to the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences. The VCS department offers graduate programs leading to the Master of Science (MS; thesis or non-thesis) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees. We also provide excellent opportunities for Post-DVM students to further their training through specialty residency programs in anesthesiology, cardiology, diagnostic imaging, emergency and critical care medicine, large animal internal medicine, large animal surgery, neurology, oncology, ophthalmology, radiation oncology, small animal internal medicine, and small animal surgery.
Dr. Hawkins is recognized as an expert on surgical diseases of the equine upper respiratory tract. Dr. Hawkins is the author of numerous peer reviewed manuscripts regarding equine surgery with an emphasis on disorders of the upper respiratory tract and the use of surgical lasers. He is the coauthor of “Respiratory Diseases of the Horse” and editor and author of “Advances in Equine Upper Respiratory”. Dr. Hawkins has impacted the field of equine surgery through his focus on clinically related research as documented with clinical case reports, retrospective studies, and original research. Dr. Hawkins is known for his surgical expertise regarding multiple large animal species including, equine, bovine, small ruminant, porcine, and exotic animals. He provides surgical services in all categories of large animal surgery include respiratory, gastrointestinal, orthopedic, and reproductive. Finally, Dr. Hawkins serves his specialty organization, The American College of Veterinary Surgeons, as a member of its Board of Regents.
