With a theme focused on “One Health,” the 2018 Purdue Veterinary Medicine Open House will draw hundreds of visitors to the College of Veterinary Medicine tomorrow (Saturday, April 14).  After months of planning and organizing by a team of PVM students, the annual event will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in and around Lynn Hall.  A host of volunteers will be busy today and tonight transforming Lynn Hall into a showcase for veterinary medicine and the human-animal bond.  Preparations already are underway, with a variety of informational signs popping-up around the building, like May flowers after April snow showers…

The Open House is part of Purdue University’s Spring Fest – a free university-wide event showcasing animals, art, insects, and more.  Click here to view a Purdue NOW video previewing the 2018 Spring Fest events, including the PVM Open House.  PVM students also have prepared a variety of videos about the Open House, accessible from the Open House webpage.  Click here for more information about the campus-wide Spring Fest.

The 2018 Open House theme is “One Health, One Goal. Because Our Health Depends On Theirs.”  The day’s activities will include new events, such as an exhibit staffed by Dr. Jeanette McGavic, the Indiana State Department of Health’s vector-borne epidemiologist for Central Indiana, who will help visitors learn about the West Nile virus, ticks and tick-borne disease in Indiana, and other topics related to public health entomology.  There also will be plenty of perennial Open House favorites like the petting zoo, painted horse, teddy bear clinic, admissions talk, Veterinary Teaching Hospital tours, and the opportunity to view a narrated live spay surgery.
