Fracture Repair

Schedule an Appointment

Equine fracture repair combines multiple challenges: Limited diagnostic and treatment access to certain areas of the body such as pelvis and spine. These fractures carry a poor prognosis in the majority of cases to this day. However, some can heal conservatively if managed correctly.

As flight animals, our patients need to be immediately weight bearing after the surgical repair is achieved. This leads to early biomechanical forces during recovery and a tremendous amount of cyclic fatigue during the coming months of healing. Sometimes, either can be overcome or reduced with a complete or partial support in a sling.

The amount of implants required to achieve stability and the management over time (against infection, pain management, gut health, overload laminitis) is often a financial strain that is hard to predict as a “round about” cost.

With state of the art equipment available, we are equipped to manage even the most challenging cases. Consulting with us leaves you with the final option and may allow us to help your horse at the right time.
