Mohamed Seleem, PhD

Professor of Microbiology, Section Head of Microbiology and Immunology

Dr. Seleem’s research is focused on developing new antimicrobials and on improved delivery of drugs for the treatment of infectious diseases that affect both humans and animals. The group also is developing an early detection and identification of a single bacterium/fungus in a complex environment. This development will shift the paradigm of diagnosis from a time-consuming, cultivation-dependent procedure to a culture-independent, in situ approach. Dr. Seleem is the section head of Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics at Purdue Veterinary Medicine. In addition to his research, Dr. Seleem has a longstanding commitment to teaching, training, and mentorship at all levels, including graduate and DVM students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty. Many of whom have gone on to highly successful academic careers in related areas.
