What Happens When Pigs and People Meet? A Look at Influenza Risk
Agricultural fairs and exhibitions allow us to celebrate our agricultural achievements and showcase livestock and food production systems to the general public. Because of their wide popularity, more people come in contact with live swine at agricultural fairs and exhibitions than in any other setting in the United States. Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan are leading states in the show pig sector. Several years of research by The Ohio State University reveals why understanding influenza and biosecurity in these settings can have a significant impact on animal and public health.
