Additional Information
This test detects the presence of the gene encoding the fimbrial antigen F5, previously known as K99. F5 is an adhesin that allows pathogenic E. coli strains to adhere to intestinal cells and colonize the small intestine. The presence of F5 allows classification of the bacterial isolate as ETEC (Enterotoxigenic E. coli).
This test is also part of the Bovine Neonatal Diarrhea Screen PCR (Bovine Coronavirus, Bovine Rotavirus, Crypto, Salmonella, and F5/K99).
