Swift Enterprises' fuel approved as test fuel by ASTM International

Swift Enterprises, based at the Purdue Research Park of West Lafayette, uses biomass and other renewable feedstocks to make 100SF. The fuel is designed to be a drop-in replacement for 100 octane low-lead fuel in general aviation piston engines. It also holds promise for engine operators who need high-octane fuel.

Mary Rusek, president and co-owner of Swift Enterprises, explained how the ASTM International approval will positively affect the firm.

"With this approval, we can begin full-scale testing with industry stakeholders," she said.

The test program will be coordinated in association with the Federal Aviation Administration and original equipment manufacturers. Extensive testing of aircraft fuel systems, engines and materials compatibility must be conducted before 100SF can be fully certified as an airworthy fuel.

"100SF will be comparably priced, environmentally friendlier and more fuel-efficient than other general aviation fuels on the market," Rusek said.
