'All-American' Marching Band to perform Aug. 22

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University's "All-American" Marching Band on Saturday (Aug. 22) will present its first public performance for the 2009 academic year at Hull Field on campus.

Jay Gephart will direct the entire 340-member band during the 7:30 p.m. performance and will talk about changes being made to the Ross-Ade Stadium football pregame show this year. The national anthem has been moved to the end of the show so that both football teams can be on the field when it is performed.

Golden Girl MerrieBeth Cox and the Boilerette Twirling Team, both winners of major awards at the Twirling Nationals at the University of Notre Dame in July, will be featured in special numbers, as will the Golduster Dancers and Golden Silks Flag Corps. Cox was awarded Teenage Miss Majorette of America and received the Personal Wow Award for Collegiate Solo Twirlers at the national competition. Purdue's entire team of twirlers earned the Wow Entertainment Award for Collegiate Teams.

Admission is free for the informal, hourlong performance. Hull Drill Field is on Third Street across from Shreve Hall on campus.
