Chamber of Commerce endorses Purdue certificate in Greenfield

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Greenfield/Hancock County Chamber of Commerce is supporting a new Purdue certificate program offered in the city that began Tuesday (June 2).

The Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors voted to allow the use of the Chamber's name on the Community Leadership Certificate program. The certificate will be granted by the Greenfield/Hancock County Chamber of Commerce and delivered by the Purdue College of Technology at Anderson.

"We are proud to be putting our name on this new certificate program that Purdue is offering," said Chamber of Commerce President Retta Livengood. "We believe strongly in educational and economic development for the Hancock County area and are privileged to be associated with this exciting initiative."

Greenfield Mayor Brad DeReamer said this program gives Greenfield and the surrounding areas a unique opportunity to have college-level courses offered locally.

"Hancock County residents, including working adults, business owners, community leaders and volunteers, high school juniors and seniors and recent graduates, should consider enrolling in this program," he said.

The first course in the series, Human Behavior in Organizations, is a three-credit-hour class offered through the Department of Organizational Leadership and Supervision at Purdue. The eight-week course meets Tuesday and Thursday evenings at the Hancock County Emergency Operations Center, 640 S. Franklin St., Greenfield.

Depending upon demand, additional courses may include those focusing on applied leadership, leadership principles, leadership for organizational change and leadership through teams. Two courses would be offered in fall 2009 and the other two in spring 2010. Each course in the series is three credit hours.

All courses offered by Purdue in Greenfield can be applied toward a certificate, an associate or a bachelor's degree in organizational leadership and supervision. Students can enroll in courses either as degree-seeking or nondegree-seeking students. The Purdue College of Technology at Anderson offers bachelor's degrees in industrial technology and organizational leadership and supervision, associate degrees in computer and information technology and organizational leadership and supervision, and courses in electrical engineering technology. Beginning in the fall, the location will offer a concurrent master's degree program with Anderson University Falls School of Business, where students can receive both a master's degree in technology and an MBA.
