Purdue, Vincennes universities team up for white-collar training

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Displaced professionals in north-central Indiana can explore new career opportunities and resume-strengthening classes at a training fair in South Bend.

The free fair, sponsored Purdue and Vincennes universities, will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Friday (May 8) at The Apprentice Academy, 3605 Gagnon St. Information will be available on training programs through Purdue's Manufacturing Extension Partnership, the Purdue College of Technology, Vincennes University Business & Industry Division, the Indiana University-South Bend Department of Professional Development and Lifelong Learning, and the Crossroads Academy.

Thirty-minute workshops on lean manufacturing techniques and Six Sigma will begin at 9:30 a.m. An IUSB representative also will be available to review résumés.

"This is a great way for team leaders, supervisors, managers and other professionals in transition to determine how to expand current skills and build their résumés," said Dietra Rosenkoetter, MEP senior account manager. "In particular, there are significant opportunities in advanced manufacturing. They also can enroll in supervisor classes, which focus on job relations, instructions, methods and safety."
