Appointments, honors and activities

• Appointments and promotions

— Richard Ghiselli has been named head of Purdue's Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management. The appointment of Ghiselli, a former hospitality and tourism management faculty member at Purdue and currently director of the School of Hotel and Restaurant Administration at Oklahoma State University, takes effect July 1. Ghiselli succeeds Raphael Kavanaugh, who died last fall.

Campus activities

— NEXTRANS, a transportation research center in Purdue's Discovery Park, is featured in the current U.S. Department of Transportation's UTC Spotlight newsletter. The two-page article highlights the center's work as a national model for how transportation professionals can monitor the performance and benefits of activities implemented on roadway networks. • Faculty and staff honors

— Lucy Flesch, assistant professor of earth and atmospheric sciences, spoke at the EarthScope Reception and Symposium in Washington, D.C., on April 29. Flesch's research is part of the EarthScope program, a multidisciplinary initiative to study the structure and dynamics of the North American continent. Flesch is working to understand and quantify the forces involved in driving earthquake deformation. More information is available at https://www.iris.edu/hq/earthscope_reception/  

— Geni Greiner, director of special events and stewardship, was named the Outstanding Adviser of the Year at a luncheon April 22 honoring student organization advisers. She was nominated by the Purdue Student Foundation Board. The nominees were selected based on qualities, including serving as a role model to students, a strong belief in the organization they represent and a willingness to commit time to the organizations.
