Purdue students to debut children's exercise video on Mother's Day

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - A children's exercise video produced by Purdue University students and starring the Purdue Pete mascot will be shown to the public on May 10.

"A Head Start To Exercise," a fitness film aimed at preschoolers, will be screened from 2-3:30 p.m. on Mother's Day at the Lafayette Theatre, 600 Main St., Lafayette. The event, which is free and open to the public, will feature games geared for 3-5-year-olds. Children also will be able to exercise in front of the large movie screen while the seven-minute film repeats. In the video, former Purdue Golduster Dance team member Lindsey Mayer leads Purdue Pete and a group of Head Start students through a variety of exercise routines. The film also is dubbed in Spanish.

There will be prizes and free popcorn at the event, as well as flowers for all of the mothers in attendance.

The film is a Film/Video Studies project in the College of Liberal Arts' 2009 Community Building program. The program, which this year is focusing on building healthy communities, is offered through the College of Liberal Arts engagement office.

The videos will be available for use in the Tippecanoe County Head Start programs.
