Purdue to offer leadership development course in Greenfield

ANDERSON, Ind. - The Purdue College of Technology at Anderson will offer a course in organizational leadership and supervision in Greenfield beginning in June.

Human Behavior in Organizations is a three-credit-hour class offered through the Department of Organizational Leadership and Supervision at Purdue. The eight-week course will meet 5:30-8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning June 2 at the Hancock County Emergency Operations Center, 640 S. Franklin St., Greenfield.

Depending upon demand, additional courses could be offered. Courses in the proposed Community Leadership Series would be in applied leadership, leadership principles, leadership for organizational change and leadership through teams. Two courses would be offered in fall 2009 and the other two in spring 2010. Each course in the series is three credit hours.

All courses offered by Purdue in Greenfield can be applied toward a certificate, an associate or a bachelor's degree in organizational leadership and supervision. Students can enroll in courses either as degree-seeking or nondegree-seeking students.

Barb Alder, director of the College of Technology at Anderson, said the courses in the series are beneficial for employees in a wide variety of industries.

"There is a strong interest in the Greenfield area for educational and economic development opportunities," she said. "Organizational leadership courses are valuable to current managers or supervisors or those who would like to move up in their careers. We hope this is the beginning of a robust partnership with the citizens and leaders in Hancock County."

This course, along with subsequent courses in the series, are open to high school students eligible to take college-level courses, college students wanting to take courses while home during the summer and to those who do not reside in Greenfield or Hancock County.

Those interested in signing up are required to apply through Purdue and are strongly encouraged to submit applications by May 18, although applications will be accepted until the start of classes.
