Veterinarians to discuss international health issues on Phi Zeta Day

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The chair of the Harvard School of Public Health AIDS Initiative will talk about the progress and problems in the fight against AIDS in Africa on Wednesday (April 15) at Purdue.

The lecture, featuring Max Essex, is part of the 22nd Annual Phi Zeta Research Day celebration at the School of Veterinary Medicine at Purdue. Essex will speak at 8:15 a.m. in Lynn Hall, Room 1136. Presentations will continue in the afternoon in Room G167, also at Lynn.

In addition to lectures, the event will feature poster displays on current studies to improve the understanding and treatment of animal and human diseases.

Other speakers include Guy Palmer, director of the School for Global Animal Health at Washington State University, who will talk about global health and the animal-human interface; and Thijis Kuiken, professor at the Department of Virology at the Erasmus Medical Centre in Rotterdam, Netherlands, who will speak on avian influenza.

Phi Zeta Day is one of several events the School of Veterinary Medicine is hosting this year to celebrate its 50th anniversary. The daylong event is organized by the Purdue chapter of the National Phi Zeta Honor Society of Veterinary Medicine.
