April 6, 2009 Women in Engineering plan summer campsWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University's Women in Engineering Program will hold two summer camps for middle and high school students.The June 22-26 Engineering FYI Camp: For Your Imagination is a residential camp focused on students who have completed seventh or eighth grade. The campers will work with current Purdue women engineering students on hands-on activities such as designing a solar oven. They also will tour Purdue engineering laboratories and meet faculty and graduate students conducting cutting-edge research. Cost for the camp is $400, which covers tuition, room and board, materials and supplies. Two sessions of the Exciting Discoveries for Girls in Engineering (EDGE) camp for students who have completed their freshman or sophomore year in high school are planned. They are July 19-24 and July 26-31. EDGE is designed to better acquaint participants with opportunities in engineering and show them how their interests and talents can be utilized. These campers also will work with current Purdue women engineering students, complete activities and tour an industrial facility. The cost is $450, which covers tuition, room and board, materials and supplies. A limited number of need-based scholarships are available for both the FYI and EDGE camps.
