March 26, 2009 Military Family Research Institute at Purdue, Sesame Street partner on projectWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Military Family Research Institute at Purdue is working with Sesame Street to evaluate a multimedia kit developed by the long-running educational children's TV show. The kit is designed to support military families with young children who have a parent who has experienced a combat-related physical or psychological injury. The institute is looking for military families to participate in the evaluation process. To qualify for participation in the project, you must be a military member, the spouse, significant other, or a close relative of a military member with a child ages 2 to 8. The child must have a parent who has a combat-related physical or psychological injury. The evaluation involves two phone interviews that take approximately 15-30 minutes each. During the second interview, participants will be asked some general questions about their child's reaction to the kit, such as how helpful the materials were and if their child found them appealing. The interviews also will include some general questions about the participant's background, including military status, deployment history, presence of an injury and number of children in the family. All participating families will be compensated with a Sesame Street gift worth up to $30 upon completion of the phone interviews. In addition, participants will be able to keep the Sesame Street materials.
