Black Voices of Inspiration will host spring concert in April

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Stellar Award nominee Terrell Hunt will join the Black Voices of Inspiration during their 34th annual spring concert April 5 at Purdue.

The annual concert will take place at 3 p.m. in the Stewart Center's Loeb Playhouse. The Black Voices of Inspiration, established in 1975, is one of four performing arts ensembles from the university's Black Cultural Center. The group has a repertoire of spirituals, gospels and contemporary songs of inspiration and passion. Twana Harris, full-time artist in residence for the Black Cultural Center, will direct the production.

The group's song selections, under the theme "His Last Week on Earth," will be performed in recognition of the Easter season, Harris said.

Hunt is a 2009 Stellar Award nominee for best new artist. He has performed with national gospel music performers Take 6, Daryl Coley, Yolanda Adams, Donnie McClurkin and Marvin Sapp. He released his first solo album, "Awesome," in 2007 on the RichEscape music label.

Established at Purdue in 1969, the Black Cultural Center is nationally recognized and acknowledged by the Association of Black Cultural Centers as one of the best centers of its kind. The center helps the community gain a greater understanding of African-American heritage and supports and enhances cultural diversity on campus and in the community.
