National Panhellenic Conference chair to speak at Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The chair of the National Panhellenic Conference will speak March 25 on women leadership and mentoring as the Purdue's Women's History Month keynote speaker.

Julie Cain Burkhard, who also has served as national president of Alpha Chi Omega, will speak at 8 p.m. in Stewart Center, Room 206. Burkhard's talk is sponsored by the Women's Resource Office and Discovery Park's Susan Bulkeley Butler Center for Leadership Excellence.

Burkhard has worked in education for 27 years and served on the board of directors for Alpha Chi Omega for 10 years, including four as president. She holds her bachelor's degree and master's degree in speech communication from the University of Georgia.

The National Panhellenic Conference, founded in 1902, is the umbrella organization for 26 international women's fraternities and sororities. Members are represented on more than 620 college and university campuses in the United States and Canada and in more than 4,600 alumnae associations, making up more than 4 million sorority women in the world.

The Women's Resource Office provides a variety of opportunities for learning, professional growth and leadership for all women students, staff and faculty at the university. The office collaborates with other university units and organizations to serve the Purdue community and provide programming throughout the year. The office also provides resources and referrals.

The Susan Bulkeley Butler Center for Leadership Excellence develops leadership capacity through research and education that helps develop, advance and broaden representation in academic and corporate ranks. The center provides research support, educational seminars, workshops and experiences for participants.
