High schoolers to get glimpse of technology careers at Vision camp

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - High school juniors will learn about college life, along with career options in everything from aviation to organizational leadership, during the annual Vision camp March 26-28 at Purdue University.

The program, sponsored by the College of Technology and Purdue's Minority Technology Association, will give students the chance to attend class lectures, participate in hands-on lab activities and meet with students and faculty in the College of Technology.

Antonia Munguia, director of diversity in the college, said the goal of Vision is to give the 11th-graders exposure and experiences in learning about technical and engineering-related careers.

"Many students never think of technology as an option," she said. "By showing them what technology is and allowing them to ask questions of students, staff and faculty, we hope to take some of the mystery out of these career paths and inform them of the preparation needed to be successful in their chosen field."

College faculty will lead sessions on biometrics, aviation, leadership, audio engineering, automation, computer graphics animation and construction management. Students will stay in the Purdue Memorial Union Hotel and have the opportunity to explore campus with other Vision participants and Minority Technology Association members.

Registration is closed for this year's program, but the College of Technology offers a wide variety of outreach camps and programs throughout the year for students in middle and high school. Programs include Turned on to Technology and Leadership, Technology Expanding All Minds, Technology Advances Girl Scouts, Technology Experiences Cheerleading, Windows of Opportunity for Women in Technology and the DOit program. The College of Technology offers majors in the departments of aviation technology, building construction management, computer graphics technology, computer and information technology, electrical engineering technology, industrial technology, mechanical engineering technology, and organizational leadership and supervision.
