Purdue's 2008 highlights captured on video

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The 54th edition of the Purdue Newsreel, a video collection of university highlights from 2008, is now available.

The 18.5-minute program, produced by the Broadcast Services unit of the Office of Marketing and Media, can be viewed on the Web or is available from the Purdue Undergraduate Library. The video also can be purchased from the Purdue Alumni Association. 

The video, "Gateway to the Future," is sponsored by the Alumni Association. It is shown to Purdue alumni clubs around the world.

The 2008 newsreel is narrated by 1989 Purdue graduate Kathy Bruni, a production assistant in Purdue Convocations. The program was produced and directed by Ray Cubberley, director of broadcast services in marketing and media. 

The program can be viewed on Purdue's YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BU0vkLdET30. Highlights in the 2008 video include: the Access and Success campaign; the inauguration of president France A. Córdova; the university's new strategic plan, "New Synergies"; groundbreakings at two of Purdue's statewide research parks; research in the School of Veterinary Medicine to prevent serious leg fractures in racehorses; a forensics talk, an alumni award ceremony and two dedications at four regional campuses; Green Week; and alumni events including PASE, Boilermaker Ball, Gala weekend, a business and leadership summit for black alumni, alumni leaders conference, Boilermaker Pride Award, Young Alumni Award, Special Boilermaker Award and six major first-time alumni awards presented in conjunction with the President's Council.

Other events in the video include: the Indiana Professor of the Year; the dedication of Purdue's Block P Sculpture and Gateway Arch during homecoming; President Córdova leading the band to the Homecoming football game; the crowning of the Homecoming king and queen; the Grand Prix race; Boiler Gold Rush; a talk by the Dalai Lama; Homecoming parade; the crowning of the king and queen; Purdue’s Paralympic and Olympic competitors; football highlights, including the victory over Indiana to culminate the career of retiring head coach Joe Tiller; men's and women's basketball highlights; volleyball highlights; the 75th anniversary of the PMO Christmas Show with new director Bill Griffel; singing by the Glee Club; and comments from alumni association executive director and CEO Kirk Cerny.
