February 26, 2009 Speaker talks about the art of appraising artWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - A curator from the Indianapolis Museum of Art will present "Challenges for a Curator: Acquiring and Analyzing Asian Art" on March 6 at Purdue University.The event, which is free and open to the public, is 1:30-2:45 p.m. in Rawls Hall, Room 2070. James Robinson, the Jane Weldon Myers Curator of Asian Art at the Indianapolis Museum of Art, will cover some of the issues a curator considers when appraising art such as audience and educational appeal, conservation and material problems, political implications, quality and value. A reception will follow from 3-4 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Confucius Institute at Purdue University, the Patti and Rusty Rueff Department of Visual and Performing Arts, and the College of Liberal Arts Interdisciplinary Studies. The Confucius Institute at Purdue is a collaboration among the colleges of Liberal Arts, Engineering and the Krannert School of Management, as well as Shanghai Jiaotong University in Shanghai, China. Two-hundred and ninety Confucius institutes worldwide are sponsored by the Chinese Language Council International to develop relationships and understanding between countries.
