Local Purdue students create Web site for Madison County Recycling Center

The Web site, https://www.madisoncountyrecyclingcenter.com, lists the location and hours of the recycling center, the items accepted, costs for recycling items and links to additional recycling tips.

The site is hosted on a server owned by the Anderson/Muncie Boiler Foundation for community engagement projects.

Students of Gary Randolph, an associate professor of computer and information technology at the Purdue location and coordinator of the project, worked on the Web site during the fall 2008 semester. The project was initiated when Randolph was looking for information about recycling electronics at the center and realized the center didn't have a Web site.

He said that since his students frequently are involved in community-service projects, he thought this would be a good one for them to pursue. The students designed and created the site, which included coding the text and creating the graphics.

Jim Eichhorn, director of the Madison County Recycling Center, said he hopes that having a dedicated Web site will increase traffic to the recycling center.

"Customers in the past have asked if we had a Web site and were disappointed that we didn't," he said. "Although customers are always welcome to call me to get information, having a Web site will make it easier for them to get what they are looking for."

The College of Technology at Anderson is located at the Anderson University Flagship Center, 2705 Enterprise Drive off Interstate 69, Exit 22. It offers bachelor's degrees in industrial technology and organizational leadership and supervision, associate degrees in computer and information technology and organizational leadership and supervision, and courses in electrical engineering technology.
