Hilltop Apartments wins national award for promoting diversity

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University Residences' Hilltop Apartments has won the "Of the Month" award from the National Association of College and University Residence Halls.

The award, administered by National Residence Hall Honorary, a branch of the National Association of College and University Residence Halls, was given to Hilltop Apartments for hosting a program last December called "Celebrating Diversity." The program promoted diversity, particularly focusing on students with disabilities.

"It's an honor to have been selected for this award because the reviewers are students at other schools across the country," said Bobby Waddell, Hilltop's general manager. "Our peers have acknowledged the great effort Purdue has made to celebrate and promote diversity."

This is the third time a Purdue residence hall has won this honor. Cary Quad won the award in September 2007 for a social program called "Larger than Life Football." Young Hall won in May 2005 for an educational program called "Managing Your Credit, Keep More of Your Money."

"The award is a reflection of the things we already do well here at University Residences," Waddell said. "It's a pat on the back, and it's nice to be recognized for what we do day to day."

Hilltop Apartments is a cluster of 31 co-ed residential buildings with 384 apartments housing about 950 freshmen and upperclassmen. It's one of the 15 residential halls on campus, including the First Street Towers that opens this fall.
