February 4, 2009 Workshop to help producers yield big profitsWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Smart Management Decisions that Yield Big Profits workshop will from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Feb. 25 at the W.G. Smith Building in New Castle.The workshop is designed to help crop and livestock producers find new and innovative management tools to reduce input costs and increase profit potential. "Participants in the program are given additional management tools and resources to reduce input costs and risks to increase profit potential," said John Orick, Purdue University Extension educator. Producers will be introduced to new tools to make more informed risk management decisions and will improve farm profitability by utilizing tools learned from the program, Orick said. The workshop will have four presentations by Purdue Extension specialists. Bruce Erickson, Purdue agricultural economist, will discuss the factors of influencing inputs, the cost of crop production and management implications for crop producers. Profitable natural resource decisions will be discussed by Jayson Waterman, district forester, and Jonathon Ferris and Jeremy Weber, Purdue Extension specialists. Keith Johnson, Purdue agronomy forage specialist, will discuss smart livestock management decisions. This workshop is free but participants are asked to register by Feb. 18.
