January 28, 2009 Purdue, Baker & Daniels offer primer on legal issues facing startup companiesWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University and Indianapolis law firm Baker & Daniels LLP will offer a free workshop on Feb. 11 at Purdue's Discovery Park on legal issues facing startup companies.Baker & Daniels partner Trevor Belden, who also is a part-time entrepreneur, will lead the workshop, which will run from 9-11 a.m. in Discovery Park's Burton D. Morgan Center for Entrepreneurship, Room 121. Topics will include new company formation, capitalization and intellectual property licensing, said event co-organizer Julie Goonewardene, director of business development for Purdue Research Park and Discovery Park. "The session also will include practical tips for engaging and working with legal counsel in the startup process, including why and when entrepreneurs should engage their own attorney," Goonewardene said. The Purdue Research Foundation and Discovery Park are co-sponsoring the event. The workshop is open to the public, but space is limited.
