Purdue's Black Cultural Center schedules Cleveland tour

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue's Black Cultural Center is sponsoring the "Soul Tour of Cleveland" on March 6-7.

The tour will examine African-American history and heritage in Cleveland. It will include a bus trip to Ohio, a tour of the city, visits to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum and the E.E.P. Creative Arts Complex, and a meeting with artist and educator Edward Parker.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum educates visitors, fans and scholars from around the world about the history and continuing significance of rock and roll music. Participants will observe exhibits displaying the golden anniversary of Motown's contributions to music by viewing the museum's newest exhibit "MOTOWN: The Sound of Young America Turns 50." The exhibit features instruments, clothing, programs, posters and recordings. Also on the exhibit is "Sepia Magazine Photo Archive 1948-1983, 35 Years of African American Experience in Music."

Cost for the trip is $100 for the general public and $35 for students. Registration and full payment is due by Feb. 6, said Renee A. Thomas, director of the Black Cultural Center. She said the cost includes transportation, lodging and admission fees.
