'Here and Now' news magazine show to debut on WBAA 920-AM

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University's AM public radio station WBAA is adding "Here and Now," a national magazine show that will begin airing at noon weekdays beginning Jan. 26, says WBAA general manager Tim Singleton.

Hosted by Robin Young, the fast-paced "Here and Now" combines news updates with conversations on public policy, international affairs, and science and technology. Each hourlong program also has features on arts and culture, including film, theater, music and food.

Guests on the program have included Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist David Halberstam; actor and director John Malkovich; authors Isabel Allende, Jonathan Safran Foer and Marilynne Robinson; The Wall Street Journal's John Harwood; jazzman Sonny Rollins; and actress Jane Fonda.

"'Here and Now' is a superb addition to our news lineup," Singleton says. "Young is an experienced journalist whose drive and enthusiasm are positively infectious, and I'm confident our discerning audience will love her."

Young has more than 25 years of broadcast experience. She is a Peabody Award-winning documentary filmmaker and has been a correspondent for the Discovery Channel, CBS, ABC and was substitute host and correspondent for "Today" on NBC for several years.

"Here and Now" is produced by WBUR in Boston and distributed nationally by Public Radio International.

WBAA-AM, licensed in 1922, is Indiana's longest continuously operating radio station, and 920-AM provides almost 2.5 million Hoosiers with news, information, public affairs, jazz, folk and other eclectic music. The AM signal is now broadcast in HD Radio, a technology that enables radio stations to broadcast their programs digitally. The programming can be heard globally via the station's Web site at https://www.purdue.edu/wbaa/listen_online/index.shtml

WBAA is a local Public Radio International affiliate and a National Public Radio member station.
