Leaders in pharmacy field to speak at Dean's Executive Forum

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Top pharmacy executives and educators will share their insights with students and the public during the 2009 Dean's Executive Forum, a class and speakers' series in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

The lectures will feature 11 different speakers from a variety of careers in the field of pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences. During their visits, the speakers will dine and meet with administrators, faculty and students.

The forum meets at 10:30 a.m. each Friday in Heine Pharmacy Building, Room 164. The lectures are part of an elective course within the professional pharmacy program, but are free and open to the public as seating permits.

The Dean's Executive Forum course has been offered for the past seven years with the goal of offering students a look at emerging trends and different career paths they can follow after they receive their degrees. Craig K. Svensson, dean of the College of Pharmacy, Nursing and Health Sciences, and Holly L. Mason, senior associate dean, coordinate the course.

Dates, speakers and topics are:

* Jan. 23. Marvin R. Richardson, president and chief executive officer of Arcadia Health Care. "The Role of the Pharmacist in Improving Medication Compliance." He earned a bachelor's degree from Purdue in 1980.

* Jan. 30. Donna S. Wall, manager of drug use policy, quality improvement and regulatory compliance at Clarian Health Partners. "Patient Safety - It's Personal." She earned a doctor of pharmacy degree from Purdue in 1993.

* Feb. 6. Ronald A. Rosich, manager of business operations in the Neuroscience National Sales Division at Eli Lilly and Co. "Medicines and Miracles." Rosich graduated with a bachelor's degree from Purdue in 1981.

* Feb. 13. Hamid A. Abbaspour, owner of Dr. Aziz Pharmacy and president of the Gateway Institute. "Yes You Can: The Opportunities and Challenges the Young Entrepreneurs (Pharmacists) are Facing in this Decade." He earned a bachelor's degree from Purdue in 1985.

* Feb. 20. Jeffrey W. Jackson, owner of Custom Med Apothecary. "Entrepreneurship: Knowledge is Key to Success." He earned a bachelor's degree from Purdue in 1997.

* Feb. 27. Nancy C. Lilly, vice president of New Product Planning & Marketing Analytics at Eli Lilly and Co. "International Trends Shaping Drug Discovery." Lilly earned a bachelor's degree from Purdue in 1978.

* March 6. William X. Malloy, clinical director and pharmacy practice residency director at Community Health Network in Indianapolis. "How is Your Puzzle Looking?" He graduated with a bachelor's degree from Purdue in 1976.

* March 27. Marcel Sassola, founder and chief executive officer of Intravenous Therapy Services Inc. "Specialty Pharmacy, Both Infusion and Injectables." He earned a bachelor's degree from Purdue in 1983.

* April 3. Albert L. Peyton, director of Global Quality Auditing and Compliance at Eli Lilly and Co. "Emerging Trends and Careers in the Pharmaceutical Industry." Peyton graduated with a doctorate degree at Purdue in 1983.

* April 10. Barbara E. Hayes, professor of pharmacology and dean of the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at Texas Southern University. "Maximizing Engagement in Pharmacy Education and Practice." She graduated with a master's degree from Purdue in 1977.

* April 17. Hyonelle Im Youngson, executive director and head of Medical Communications Scientific Affairs and Global Development at Amgen Inc. "Pharmacist in Pharma - Optimizing Your Options." Youngson earned a doctor of pharmacy degree from Purdue in 1994.

* April 24. Edward L. Langston, immediate past chair of the board of trustees of the American Medical Association and doctor of family medicine and geriatrics with the American Health Network. "Involvement and Leadership is Not an Option, It's a Responsibility." He graduated with a bachelor's degree from Purdue in 1967.
