National League for Nursing CEO to visit Purdue

Beverly Malone, chief executive officer of the National League for Nursing, will be on the Purdue campus this month as part of the Regenstrief Center for Healthcare Engineering Pioneer Speaker Series.

Malone will give a keynote speech, "The Educator, the Educated and Nursing Education," at 4 p.m. Jan. 15 in the Purdue Memorial Union North Ballroom. The talk, which is co-sponsored by the School of Nursing's Fuld grant, is free and open to the public.

During her visit, Malone also will meet with students, faculty and administrators; attend a number of focus groups on different health topics; and speak on "National and International Perspectives on Preparing and Retaining a Diverse Nursing Work Force" at a luncheon Jan. 16 in Discovery Park.

Malone's career has integrated policy, education, administration and clinical practice. She has served as president of the American Nurses Association, deputy assistant secretary for health within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in the Clinton administration and general secretary of the Royal College of Nursing in the United Kingdom.

In 2007, Malone was appointed chief executive officer of the National League of Nursing, which is an organization for nurse faculty and leaders in nursing education. The organization offers faculty development, networking opportunities, testing and assessment, nursing research grants and public policy initiatives to its 27,000 individual and 1,200 institutional members.
