The Purdue Repertory Dance Company will present its Winter Works 2008 Dance Concert on Dec. 12 and 13.

The dance company will perform nine new dances created by faculty and student choreographers. The concert is at the Nancy T. Hansen Theatre in Yue-Kong Pao Hall of Visual and Performing Arts.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. on both days, and a matinee is 2 p.m. Dec. 13. Tickets are $12 for the general public, $10 for students and $6 for children ages 12 and under. Reserved tickets can be purchased in the Loeb box office in Stewart Center, or box offices in Elliott Hall of Music and Pao Hall. Tickets also can be reserved by calling (765) 494-3933 or (800) 914-SHOW, or through Ticketmaster at (765) 743-5151.

Winter Works performances include:

* "At Arm's Length," choreographed by faculty member Carol Cunningham, depicts one couple's challenges finding time and space to be together.

* "WITNESS," choreographed by faculty member Rebecca Bryant, blends elements of dance, theater and visual art to investigate the following question: How do we, as a society, construct, absorb and consume death and violence?

* "Momentum's Rise," choreographed by faculty member Sally Wallace, reflects upon a truth that when people gather and move together in one direction, change occurs.

* "You are here" is a new group work created by faculty member Holly Jaycox. This work explores the relationship of the individual to the group mind. Original music by local composer Jamie Newman accompanies the piece.

* "Lavender in Twilight" is a new ballet work created by faculty member Melodie Carr. It plays with the idea of give and take.

* "Naissance" is choreographed by Katie Byrum, a senior in genetic biology from Greenwood, Ind. The dance explores the idea of how our point of view is constantly shaped by new ideas we encounter.

* "Precisely Arbitrary" is choreographed by Kelli Anne Drinnen, a senior in English literature from Lafayette, Ind. This work explores how the ability to see another person's face - or not - affects the experience of those looking.

* "interweaving chaos" is choreographed by Mandy Hampton, a doctoral student in speech and language pathology from San Antonio. The dance embodies the organization and patterning that exist in a seemingly chaotic world.

* "The Catapult Mazurka" is choreographed by Paul Rutz, a doctoral student in theory and cultural students in the Department of English. Rutz, who is from Faribault, Minn., is a former Navy lieutenant who served on the aircraft carrier USS Kennedy (CV-67). This performance shows what it's like to work on an aircraft carrier's flight deck.
