Open forums planned for College of Education dean finalists

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Public forums for the four finalists for the Purdue University dean of the College of Education will be held beginning Friday (Dec. 5).

Each candidate will be asked to make a presentation of roughly 15 minutes, which will be followed by an opportunity for audience members to ask questions.

Dennis R. Depew, dean of the College of Technology, is chairing the search committee.

Candidates and their open forum dates are:

* Friday (Dec. 5). 8:30-9:30 a.m. Stewart Center, Room 310. Jonathan Plucker, director of the Center for Evaluation and Education Policy at Indiana University.

* Monday (Dec 8). 2-3 p.m. Stewart Center, Room 214 A-B. John Schuh, distinguished professor of educational leadership and policy studies at Iowa State University.

* Wednesday (Dec 10). 2-3 p.m. Stewart Center, Room 202. Maryann Santos de Barona, senior associate dean for academic programs and personnel at Arizona State University.

* Monday (Dec 15). 2:30-3:30 p.m. Stewart Center, Room 202. Lynn Okagaki, commissioner for education research, National Center for Education Research, U.S. Department of Education.

The committee is searching for a successor to George W. Hynd, who was dean of the College of Education from 2003 to December 2007. Hynd is now senior vice provost for education and innovation, dean of the Mary Lou Fulton College of Education and Foundation Professor at Arizona State University. Kevin Kelly, who has served as head of Purdue's Department of Educational Studies since 2002, is the interim dean of the College of Education.
