The public will be able to see some of the newest poinsettia cultivars and offer their assessments during the 2008 Purdue Consumer Poinsettia Open House from 1-5 p.m. Dec. 7 at the Purdue University Horticulture Greenhouse potting room.

The open house will feature more than 95 poinsettia cultivars, poinsettias produced by environmentally friendly techniques, new and experimental cultivars, and Purdue Extension information on poinsettia care.

"Attendees will be asked to fill out a survey to help identify the latest consumer preferences to assist poinsettia breeders," said Roberto Lopez, an assistant professor and floriculture Extension specialist. "For example, we want to know their thoughts on colors, novelty plants, pots and some of the environmentally friendly production techniques."

Poinsettias will not be on sale at this event, but there will be a drawing to win some of the newest cultivars. A map showing the site of the open house and parking is available online at https://www.hort.purdue.edu/hort/facilities/images/maps/
