• Faculty and staff honors:

— William J. Rowe, an engineering staff member at Discovery Park's Birck Nanotechnology Center, was named a Distinguished Hoosier by Gov. Mitch Daniels for his 39 years of service with the Indiana National Guard. Rowe, a sergeant first class in the National Guard, received the Distinguished Hoosier Award at a concert and retirement ceremony in his honor on Nov. 9. Rowe, who joined Birck as the e-beam lithography process and equipment owner in 2007, has 29 years of experience in the nanofabrication industry with Delco Electronics and DuPont Photomasks Inc.

—  Scott Ksander, Purdue's executive director for information technology networks and security, was honored as the Information Security Executive of the Year during the Executive Alliance's Information Security North America Awards program Nov. 17 in National Harbor, Md. The alliance recognizes individuals and project teams who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in the field of information security in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom and Ireland. Ksander was nominated for the award by his colleagues in information technology networks and security for his efforts in the SecurePurdue initiative and was one of three higher education nominees for the award. Leading executives from across the United States and Canada were in attendance. Executive Alliance is the premier organization for creating leadership-recognition forums that honor and recognize outstanding achievements of executives in different industries. The organization also named executives of the year in government and commercial.
