Senior vice president honored for fundraising efforts

Murray Blackwelder, senior vice president for advancement at Purdue University, was the recipient of the 2008 Outstanding Fundraising Executive Award from the Indiana chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

Blackwelder received the award Tuesday (Nov. 18) at the 25th annual Philanthropy Awards Dinner in Indianapolis.

He was nominated by Jerry Semler, a Purdue alumnus and chairman of the board of OneAmerica Financial Partners; Lafayette-area volunteer and philanthropist Linda Rohrman; and Joe Seaman, president and chief executive officer of the Lafayette-West Lafayette Development Corp. Rohrman and Seaman were co-chairs of the local Campaign for Purdue.

Blackwelder came to Purdue in 2001 and led the $1.7 billion Campaign for Purdue and is currently leading the university's $304 million Access and Success Campaign.

The Association of Fundraising Professionals is composed of individuals responsible for generating philanthropic support for a wide variety of nonprofit, charitable organizations. It was founded in 1960 and has more than 26,000 members in 174 chapters around the world.
