Appointments, honors and activities

• Appointments and promotions:

— Elizabeth Thompson is the new assistant director of annual giving for e-philanthropy. Thompson is a 2007 Purdue graduate.

• Campus activities:

— Students from Purdue's School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences will be working with the Tippecanoe County Health Department and nursing and medical students at a free flu shot clinic for adults from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday (Nov. 15). It will take place in the home economics building at the Tippecanoe County Fairgrounds, 1401 Teal Road, Lafayette. There will be 3,000 doses of the vaccine given out on a first-come, first-served basis.

• Gifts:

— This fall, Bristol-Myers Squibb donated 10,000 tablets of 1 mg Coumadin and 35,000 tablets of 5 mg Coumadin for the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences' Kenya initiative. Since 2002, the Department of Pharmacy Practice has worked to develop and maintain a clinical practice and experiential programs site in Eldoret, Kenya. The gift, valued at more than $38,000, will help enhance both the clinical pharmacy services and the student experience in Kenya.

• Faculty and staff honors:

— David Ebert, a professor of electrical and computer engineering, has been named an IEEE Fellow. Fellows are named after a rigorous evaluation procedure. The honor is one of the most prestigious given by IEEE, formerly the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Ebert, who was elected a fellow on Nov. 12, effective Jan. 1, was honored for his contributions to data visualization and its applications.
