November 13, 2008 Empire Brass to perform sounds of the season at Long CenterWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -
"An Empire Brass Holiday" is presented by Purdue Convocations as part of its Classics series. Known for their showmanship as well as their musicianship, Empire Brass members perform bright, dynamic arrangements from a repertoire that spans centuries and cultures, said Abby Eddy, Purdue Convocations director of marketing. The five musicians - Rolf Smedvig and Marce Reese on trumpet, Michelle Perry on French horn, Mark Hetzler on trombone and Kenneth Amis on tuba, all of whom have held leading positions with major American orchestras - perform more than 100 concerts a year around the globe. The ensemble has performed with symphony orchestras such as the Chicago Symphony, Boston Symphony and the New York Philharmonic. With the group's best-selling recordings on the Telarc label, Empire Brass has introduced a worldwide audience to brass music spanning 500 years from a dozen different countries, ranging from Bach and Handel to jazz and Broadway. Tickets are $26 for adults and $16 for those 18 years and younger, Purdue students and Ivy Tech Lafayette students.
