November 11, 2008 Purdue celebrates Native American cultureWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Native American Educational and Cultural Center at Purdue University will celebrate Native American heritage during a Sunday (Nov. 16) event at the Purdue Memorial Union's North Ballroom.The four-hour celebration, from 1-5 p.m. will showcase Native American food, a powwow-style drum performance and the screening of the documentary “Long Journey Home.” Later, Annette and Dee Ketchum, the documentary’s subjects, and Rita Kohn, its co-producer, will share their views on contemporary Native American realities, history and culture. The event will conclude with a ceremony honoring the Ketchums and Mike Floyd, chief of the Eel River tribe of Indiana, by presenting them with Pendleton blankets in the traditional American Indian way. The event, which is co-sponsored by the Purdue Student Union Board and the Native American Educational and Cultural Center, is free and open to the public.
