November 10, 2008 'Madeline and the Bad Hat' to bring beloved book character to PurdueWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The antics and escapades of a little French girl will come to life at 3 p.m. Nov. 23 when an original musical based upon the book by Ludwig Bemelmans is performed in Purdue Stewart Center's Loeb Playhouse. The show, "Madeline and the Bad Hat," is produced by ArtsPower and presented by Purdue Convocations as part of its Family Adventures series. The program is recommended for children ages 5-8. "Madeline and the Bad Hat" follows the adventures of a young Parisian girl who - despite starting off on the wrong foot with a mischievous new neighbor - eventually learns that first impressions aren't everything. When the Spanish ambassador moves into the house next door, Madeline, Miss Clavel and the other girls quickly discover that his son Pepito is a "bad hat" - rude, conceited and nothing but trouble. But when Pepito unexpectedly finds himself in real danger, it's up to the resourceful Madeline to help him. This tale of enemies-become-friends will charm and entertain children and parents alike while it captures the carefree yet tender spirit of Bemelmans's "Madeline" series, said Abby Eddy, Purdue Convocations director of marketing. Madeline and her friends all wear unique hats, and audience members will be invited to join in the fun by making their own hats before the show. The pre-show activity will begin at 2 p.m. Nov. 23 in the Stewart Center West Lobby. Tickets are $14 for adults and $10 for children 18 years and younger, Purdue students and Ivy Tech Lafayette students.
