Purdue University Galleries is presenting a comprehensive exhibition of contemporary Latino art that examines issues of immigration.

"Humanigration: The Cárdenas Latino Collection," will be presented Oct. 27 to Dec. 7, in the Robert L. Ringel Gallery in Purdue Memorial Union and Stewart Center Gallery, and Oct. 27 to Nov. 25 in the Patti and Rusty Rueff Galleries in the Yue-Kong Pao Hall of Visual and Performing Arts.

Presented in collaboration with the Purdue Latino Cultural Center, "Humanigration" consists of artworks from the collection of Gilberto Cárdenas, assistant provost and director of the Institute for Latino Studies at the University of Notre Dame.

An avid collector of Chicano, Mexicano and Latino art in general, Cárdenas has contributed to the creative expressions of the Latino community by promoting, exhibiting and publishing Latino artists and supporting cultural centers in the United States.

The works in this exhibit focus on the theme of immigration to coordinate with the "Humanigration" project sponsored by the Latino Cultural Center, from which the exhibit title is borrowed. Maricela Alvarado, director of the Latino Cultural Center, Ivan Hernandez, director of admissions at Ivy Tech Community College, and Purdue Galleries director Craig Martin made the selections for the exhibit from the Cárdenas collection.

At 6 p.m. Oct. 29, Galleries will present a lecture by Cárdenas in Stewart Center, Room 206.  The lecture will be immediately followed by a reception in Stewart Center Gallery.

The discussion will be led by Alvarado, and the participants will include Gilberto Corral Jr., LCC program coordinator; Mike Piggott, Purdue director for community relations; Ivan Hernandez, director of admissions at Ivy Tech Community College; and Alejandra Roman and Luis Balcazar, student participants in the trip. The discussion will be immediately followed by a reception in the West Faculty Lounge.

Members of the Latino-based fraternity Delta Pi Rho will lead docent tours in all three Purdue University Galleries for an hour prior to and an hour following the discussion, 5-6 p.m. and approximately 7:30-8:30 p.m.
