Panel to discuss women, the Iraq War during Experience Liberal Arts

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - A panel discussion will focus on issues related to women and the war in Iraq from 7-9 p.m. on Oct. 23 in Purdue University's Lawson Computer Science Building, Room 1142.

The panel participants are Valentine Moghadam, Purdue professor of sociology and director of Women's Studies; Yifat Susskind, communications director for the human rights organization MADRE; and Lori Perdue, a member of Code Pink, a women-initiated grass-roots peace and social justice movement working to end the war in Iraq. They will discuss their roles in lobbying members of Congress for change, their contributions for humanitarian work for Iraqi women and children, and their involvement in anti-war advocacy.

The event, which is free and open to the public, is part of Experience Liberal Arts, a monthlong celebration highlighting the College of Liberal Arts. October's Experience Liberal Arts will feature a variety of lectures, films, performances, events and exhibits that reflect the college's ongoing coursework and research in the arts, humanities, and social and behavioral sciences.
